Commercial Security FAQ

Commercial Security FAQs

What are the differences between commercial and residential locks?

Commercial locks are generally a bit larger and more robust than residential locks, to be able to withstand the wear and tear of a commercial environment.

I've recently bought/taken over a commercial property and I don't know who might have keys. Do I need to replace all the locks?

No you don’t have to get all new locks. We are able to rekey your existing locks to new keys so that the old keys no longer work at all.

I have many offices in my building and I only want certain people to have access to certain offices and rooms. What options do I have?

There are a few options for you. The easiest one would be to implement a master keyed system throughout your offices. This is a multi layered keying system that can control who has access to what rooms.

Here is a basic example:

  • The director would have a grand-master key that opens every door.
  • The manager has a master key that opens every door except the director office.
  • Every worker has a key that works their office and common areas but no one else’s office.
  • The cleaners have a key that will let them in the back door and select rooms and areas.
And so on like this. Any amount of rooms and keys can be managed in a system like this.

The other option would involve electronic locks, strikes and swipe card access. This would work in a similar way to the master key system, but without the potential hassle of keys. For more information on either of these option, please don’t hesitate to contact us and one of our highly trained staff can tailor a solution to meet you needs.

I have a key that says "Restricted/Registered", can you cut that for me?

A restricted/registered key is a key with a unique profile and cuts that only one specific locksmiths can cut after verification from the authorised signatories. We have a range of restricted systems that we can supply and cut keys for, and yours may be one of them but that doesn’t mean we are able to cut it for you straight away, you may need to get authorisation.

On the head of the key there will usually be a phone number and a locksmiths company details. If its not us, its best to call that company and they can point you in the right direction.

Do you have any unpick-able locks?

We carry a range of restricted barrels and keys, many of these are also un-pickable. The restricted systems we carry are only available through us, and cannot be cut or copied anywhere else. For more information on these you can click here, or contact us anytime.
